Main purpose of general journal is to record all financial transactions within one single journal. It should be easier for companies who run services business. They just sell services. No inventory needs to be recorded or calculated. But, for trading or manufacturing companies, writing all transactions within one single journal could be ineffective.

Because all records involve numbers, then using Excel is more recommended. But, you can use the Microsoft Word format as a printed form to write them manually before move the information into the spreadsheet.
